Сад был основан в 1342 году буддийским монахом в честь своего учителя. Сегодня Шицзылинь входит в Список Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО (с 2000 года) и считается одним из четырёх крупнейших классических садов Сучжоу. Главная достопримечательность — скальные образования, напоминающие львов: через их лабиринт можно фотографироваться и искать выход, как в каменном лабиринте.
