Description
Perched atop Mount Andaon, Fort Saint-André has been a listed historic monument since 1903 and remains an enduring symbol of 14th-century military architecture. Commissioned by King Philippe le Bel to assert royal power, this imposing fortress housed a garrison, court of justice, and prison. History lingers here—graffiti from prisoners locked up during the 18th and 19th centuries still marks the walls. Explore its remarkably intact rooms, courtyards, and chapel, then take the parapet walk for panoramic views of the Rhône River, Avignon’s Pope's Palace, Philippe Le Bel Tower, Mont Ventoux, and the surrounding countryside. With its fascinating history and breathtaking vistas, Fort Saint-André is a must-see for lovers of medieval architecture and sweeping landscapes
