Музей открылся в 2016 году на месте закрывшегося Музея музыкальных шкатулок Мацусимы. Основу экспозиции составляет «Коллекция музыкальных шкатулок», унаследованная от Королевского музея Бельгии. К ней добавились две новые постоянные экспозиции: «Коллекция Сэгава» — об эпохе расцвета парижской высокой моды, и «Коллекция игрушек Китахары» с ценными экспонатами из собрания Тэрухисы Китахары. Одним из главных аттракционов являются живые выступления — «Танцующий орган», изготовленный по специальному заказу знати и аристократии. Концерты проходят раз в час, и во время них персонал музея объясняет устройство инструментов и демонстрирует их звучание.
