Yamadera, formally Risshaku-ji, is a mountainside Buddhist temple complex in Yamagata, reached by a long stone stairway through cedar forest up to halls and lookouts above the valley. Reotour sells guided day trips from Sendai built around the temple climb, most of which continue to the Ginzan Onsen hot-spring village afterwards.
